All right photographers – this one’s for you!!!
It’s clear that I have a love and passion for topical blogging (sharing thoughts via written word), but one of the major components of selling a service is having a portfolio. Something that proves your expertise, shares your past work, and gives an idea of what to expect.
For photographers, you are selling an experience, but you’re also selling your images – and not just “images” but galleries.
What I have learned to love about blogging as a photographer is the ability to create an expectation for the final product, not just a highlight.
The truth of the matter is Instagram is a compilation of all of the best. Brides, moms, and seniors will create Pinterest boards with the best of the best images. That’s great for inspiration! But it’s also not realistic.
Galleries are unique to each person, and not every image will be the best image they’ve ever seen. That’s normal and okay.
Yes, you should still narrow down to put forth your best work, but it allows you to choose what you want to share, keep the intimate moments private for your client, and not overwhelm prospects with personal aspects of someone else’s gallery that they simply don’t care about.
That results in a better experience for everyone. It results in trust.
Blogging sessions can get overwhelming. I remember the days when I had the expectation that I would blog every session…when you’re shooting multiple times a week, it can get really unrealistic that you would have time for editing AND curating AND writing a recap to share.
But I still believe there is a HUGE benefit in having your galleries live online in a way that are optimized for search (SEO) and are a curated version of your clients’ galleries (after all, not all of their personal memories should be marketing material for you…).
Imagine knowing that you can choose your best four sessions from the month to have published once a week. To be one of the first people that show up on Google when someone is researching their wedding venue or trying to find a photographer in a specific area.
It’s the best way to target warm leads because they’re already looking for you.
It’s also the best way to solidify a lead from Instagram because they are spending time digging into your full experience rather than scrolling past ONE image from a lot of work you put in.
(Keep in mind it takes on average 3-6 months for a blog post to get traction, but in my experience, it’s more like 1-2 years, so you need to start TODAY! Portfolio blog posts are my highest ranking and most successful at attracting quality leads.)
Our goal at More Than Creative is to remove obstacles in growing your business.
One of the main obstacles with photographers wanting to blog their sessions is time and knowledge.
Our goal with the portfolio blogging for photographers service is to help carry the heavy lifting of curating your galleries, formatting them in a way that shows the quality of your work, and to provide you with the skills to write meaningful reflections.
First, we’ll start with understanding which session recaps will provide the most benefit to you with where you want your business to go.
Second, you’ll send over galleries that you want to have recapped (up to 4 a month), and we will curate the photos to be blogstompped in a way that tells a story and highlights your variety of composition, locations, and style.
Next, we will format your images in WordPress complete with SEO, so it can be ready for your recap.
When it comes to the written portion of session recaps, they are very personal. They should be an opportunity to connect with your clients by giving a thoughtful reflection on your time with them. They should be a chance to educate future clients on what your expectations are and how to get the most out of their experience with you. They also don’t need to be THAT long.
Frankly, it would be difficult for us to write them for you…
BUT we don’t want to leave you high and dry right in front of the biggest roadblock photographers face with blogging.
So this service will provide coaching and editing – we will teach you the components and formula of how to write a recap that attracts the right audience, educates future prospects, and delights your current client. Once you’ve had the coaching and have formulated your written portion, we’ll edit and provide feedback, so you’ll continue to grow, and it will get easier.
Our goal is to not only provide you with the end product, but to also empower you to know that you CAN do this – to help you connect and take ownership over your business and marketing (but with help!!!).
How exciting will it be to have a session to share each week, formatted in WordPress, optimized for search (SEO), where it will live forever, and you can promote it on other platforms?
Due to wanting to prioritize the level and depth of work for each person who partners with us, blogging clients will be booked when spots become available.
You have an option to book monthly or sign on for a full quarter at a discount (recommended!!!).
We’re so excited about offering this and helping business owners who have been flirting with the idea of blogging but are having a hard time taking the first step or simply don’t have the time anymore.
